Biometrics Lab Intern

Position:  Biometrics Lab Intern

Experience:  2+ years

Type:  Part-time (10 – 30 hours/week)

Compensation:  Competitive hourly salary

Location:  Raleigh, NC

Opportunity Description:
You will be a vital member of Valencell’s Biometrics Lab, setting up experimental designs and executing data collection on numerous and diverse human subjects wearing biometric sensors used for a variety of different health and medical applications. Your specific activities will include the following: 1) Supporting recruitment efforts for clinical testing on human subjects, 2) Collecting data on numerous human subjects wearing biometric sensors in a variety of settings, and 3) Organizing data and generating reports.   

 Required Education and Skills:
• Currently enrolled in a B.S. or higher in clinical research, physiology, exercise science, biomedical engineering, or similar discipline
• Experience with data collection, organization, and test reporting
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Fast learner and highly organized – this internship will require a large variety of analytic tasks
• Self-starter – this internship requires taking the initiative to learn new things
• Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional, multi-disciplinary teams
• Strong oral and written communication skills 

Lagniappe (nice-to-have) skills:
• Familiarity with exercise technology, including smart phone applications, fitness software, and wearable monitors for heart rate, GPS, and/or power monitors
• Experience taking manual blood pressure measurements
• Experience recruiting study participants through a variety of means

Regulatory Affairs Manager

Position:  Regulatory Affairs Manager

Experience:  5+ years

Type:  Full-time employment

Opportunity Description:
You will be a vital member of our operations team working primarily with Valencell’s medical-grade monitoring wearable devices and digital health solutions. Wearable devices and solutions are newly designed products that Valencell is developing that will be subject regulations for consumer and medical grade clearances. You will have the chance to help design and implement best practices in a fast paced and quickly growing company.

This role has 4 key functions:

  1. Work with engineering, manufacturing partners and suppliers to support development of new products and regulatory requirements. Support and implementation of required processes and controls to meet the needs of regulatory agencies like the FDA.
  2. Key member, contributor, and coordinator for the process, including documentation, that is required to submit for regulatory approvals like 510(k) submissions.
  3.  Key member in the management and training of the quality management system and ensures that it meets our needs for obtaining medical clearance. As needed, manage risk and quality functions, document control, product change management plus any additional processes that are required as our business expands.
  4.  Support our legacy businesses.

This person must be a self-starter, highly motivated individual that works well across multiple teams in the company. This position provides a great opportunity to contribute substantially to a rapidly growing startup company, with many opportunities for career growth.

Required Education and Skills:
• B.S. or higher in engineering
• 2+ years’ experience in a regulatory role in a medical device company
• Experience working on documentation and 510(k) submissions to the FDA
• Experience in medical devices
• Experience working with electronics and optics (preferred)
• SPC and Statistical analysis methods and tools
• Experience working with wearables or hearables or fitness brands (preferred)
• Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical engineering, industrial design, and optics
• Exceptional communications skills: writing test plans, summarizing evaluation processes, summarizing complex discussions, and preparing reports for both internal and customer consumption

Senior Software Engineer

Position:  Senior Software Engineer

Experience:  5+ years

Type:  Full-time

Opportunity Description:
You will be a vital member of our R&D team, developing innovative solutions that power digital health applications. Your specific duties will include the following: 1) Implementing algorithms generated by the data science team in target code (C++), 2) Demonstrating feasibility of models by scoping implementation complexity and proposing alternative approaches, when necessary, in a collaborative manner, 3) Supporting integration of C++ libraries into embedded firmware products, and 4) Developing testing methodologies compatible with our continuous integration system. 

Required Education and Skills: 
• B.S. or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
• 5+ years of experience developing code for commercial products
• Fluent in C++ including experience with STL
• Strong background in linear algebra, statistics, or numerical mathematics
• Very proficient with data structures
• Very familiar with Python

Lagniappe (nice-to-have) skills:
• Experience with Git and Agile development processes
• Experience developing FDA-regulated software
