Expert in biometric technology joins fellow industry leaders to support research, drive innovation and improve personal health in the fast-growing sleep technology market

Raleigh, NC – August 7, 2015 – Valencell, a leader in performance biometric data sensor technology, today announced that its co-founder and president, Dr. Steven LeBoeuf, has been appointed to the National Sleep Foundation’s (NSF) newly launched Sleep Technology Council. The advisory council will operate within the larger foundation, as participants on the council serve to further the mission of supporting and enabling innovations in consumer sleep technology.

Dr. LeBoeuf will join participants from Beddit, Emfit, Jawbone, MetroNaps, MisFit Wearables, and Responsive Surface Technology (ReST) to collaborate on insights and innovations that will push the envelope in the sleep technology space. In its first year, the Sleep Technology Council will focus on enabling growth for this emerging sector of digital health.

“To date, the biggest market for biometric wearables has been fitness and activity tracking products. However, researchers in the field are beginning to connect the dots between activity and sleep, physical activity, sleep, and health,” said Dr. Steven LeBoeuf, president and co-founder of Valencell. “Using accurate wearable biometric sensor  technology to better understand sleep patterns will help us translate heart rate, respiration rate, and activity context data into actionable insights that will not only improve our scientific knowledge of sleep, but will also health us develop new methods of improving sleep and overall health.”

Under LeBeouf’s leadership, the Valencell team has dedicated years of research and development to its PerformTek biometric sensor technology, the only solution clinically proven to track heart rate continuously anywhere on the body, including the wrist, ear and arm.
