Company’s licensable fitness technology wins CTIA Emerging Tech Award 

RALEIGH, NC, May 16, 2012 – Valencell, an innovator in mobile fitness technology that integrates into audio headsets and earbuds, today announced Chris Eschbach, Ph.D., has joined its growing team as an Exercise Physiologist.  For over 16 years, Chris has been developing and performing benchmark assessments, examining sport performance and validation of physiological metrics and teaching human physiology, anatomy, nutrition and fitness at the collegiate level.

Today’s news comes on the heels of CTIA-The Wireless Association® awarding Valencell the first place CTIA Emerging Technology (E-Tech) Award in the Enterprise and Vertical Market Solution, Health and Wellness category. The E-Tech Awards winners, named last week, represent the industry’s most innovative wireless products and services in the areas of mobile apps, consumer electronics, enterprise and vertical markets and network infrastructure. Valencell impressed a panel of recognized industry experts, media and analysts with itsproprietary sensor technology that accurately and continuously measures biometric data during any exercise and in any environment.

Chris acted as a Sports Science Consultant to Valencell in the past, where he provided support with validation trials and physiological monitoring services. In his new role as the Exercise Physiologist, Chris will coordinate internal and external clinical trials, supervise and execute validation testing in the lab and field, as well as contribute to the research and development of new technology related to physiological biometrics as applied to exercise, medical and military situations.

“As an Associate Professor at Meredith, Dr. Eschbach’s research uncovered the importance of measuring multiple body metrics towards generating important fitness assessments, and as a consultant for Valencell, he coordinated a very successful 40-person validation study of Valencell’s biometric earbud sensor technology,” CEO and co-founder Dr. Steven LeBoeuf said. “His addition to the Valencell team will accelerate the development of new biometrics for next-generation performance and fitness assessments that are in hot demand in the industry.”

Prior to joining Valencell, Chris founded the Human Performance Lab, LLC, a facility dedicated to providing physiological consulting for wellness and sports. He served as an Associate Professor at North Carolina Wesleyan College, focusing on research related to the validation of biometrics measured by sensors, range of motion, athletic performance.  Previously, he spent ten years at Meredith College as an Associate Professor and chaired the Department of Nutrition, Health and Human Performance.

Chris holds a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology and an M.S. in Human Performance from The University of Southern Mississippi. He is certified as a Health Fitness Specialist by the American College of Sports Medicine and a Strength and Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
