First Responder Monitoring

Fireman with earbud technology monitoring heart rate, body temperature, respiratory rate and blood pressure

Medical monitoring is an important part of keeping firefighters and other first responders safe in extreme conditions. For example, in January 2008, the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) upgraded standards for the rehabilitation process in standard NFPA 1584. As part of this new standard, medical monitoring components include:

  • Heart rate
  • Body temperature
  • Respiratory rate
  • Blood pressure

While tracking these metrics is crucial, it’s also important to provide a monitoring device that does not hinder or interfere with normal duties or movements of first responders.  PerformTek®-powered audio earbuds and headsets can be easily inserted and worn as they respond to emergencies.

Military Applications

Military personnel wearing V-LINC sensor technology

Monitoring real-time physiological data of military personnel in training and deployment situations can ensure optimal performance, contextual awareness, and distribution of additional resources, as necessary. PerformTek® sensor technology can be seamlessly integrated into communication devices military personnel already wear, eliminating the need for additional equipment to carry and maintain.

Gaming

According to statistics from VGCharts.com, fitness game titles reached an all-time global record by the end of 2009, with over 100 million units sold.  That number has continued to grow exponentially over the last two years.

Monitoring and tracking real-time body metrics with PerformTek® sensor technology creates a fully-enhanced experience for any gaming fitness title.  Audio earbuds, headsets, and headphones are natural peripherals for gaming and are also ideal for exercising.
